It is a tragedy with nation and matter of shame for administration if ex-servicemen are not able to live comfortably post retirement only because one businessman cum politician has ventured out couple of unauthorized commercial activities in residential area to quench his desire for ‘Yeh Dil Mangei More’
JAMMU: The ex-servicemen who sweat and bleed to protect boundaries of country for rendering us a sound sleep are forced to live in distress with constant sleepless nights in Sainik Colony.
The reason behind their mounting myseries is mayhem unleashed on roads in colony by movement of heavy and hazardous goods vehicles for loading and unloading of cement from godowns reportedly owned by one Jai Singh, a former Jammu Municipal Councillor and claiming to be a tall leader of Congress in Jammu.
The situation has been further deteriorated in the colony by 3 underground water bores which are ruthlessly exploited by its owner by extracting ground water at an unimaginable commercial scale allegedly in connivance with higher ups of Jal Shakti Department, rues residents of Sainik colony.
The irony of the matter is that both godowns and water bores are established in front of residential bungalow where former DGP Dr. S.P Vaid is residing since decades alongwith family.
In the close proximity also resides another retired IPS officer Jagjit Kumar but still the show of nuisance allows to goes smoothly for unknown reasons, complained Ranjeet Singh, a resident of Sainik Colony.
Residents of Sainik Colony have been complaining of an alleged racket being operated by a godown and ground water bores owner in connivance with administration within colony, which has constructed huge ware house for store and transportation of cement and chemicals goods in residential area in connivance with corrupt officers of JMC.
The police, JMC, RTO and the district administration all aware about it but no action was taken so far, as the the owners Jai Singh enjoys strong patronage of police and civil officers in the administration, alleged a retired Colonel wishing anonymity.
Expressing annoyance over inability of the administration to check operation of illegal godowns and movements of heavy vehicles in colony, residents say movement of heavy vehicles through the areas have become a road safety concern.
Movement of large heavy vehicles inside colony is endangering life of two-wheeler riders and pedestrians,” said Mohinder Sharma. “It is also making the area risky, noisy, congested and dusty,” says residents.
Earlier there was only one Godown. However, couple of months ago another Godown measuring around 7000 square feet was constructed illegally by its owners without any permission from JMC, complained aggrieved Rajinder Singh, a retired officer of Indian Air Force and a resident of Sainik Colony.
He further said “These godowns as well as water bores become a source of nightmare for residents of colony where we aspire to spend our retired life with our family in a peaceful manner”.
For entire days, the water tankers which visibly unfit to operate with approximately 200 to 300 sorties while passing through colony creates a safety concern for pedestrians and two-wheeler riders. With the onset of sunset, this unauthorised operation resumed by heavy hazardous 36 tyres tralas and 12 tyres heavy trucks resulting in sleepless nights for the residents and especially aged, rue residents.
As per laws, godowns and movement of heavy commercial vehicles are prohibited in residential areas. But, making mockery of system, the owner of Godowns and water bores is carrying this unauthorised operation conveniently much to despair of residents in Sainik Colony, avers another resident Ravinder Kumar.
The JMC Councillor of Sainik Colony, Narinder Singh Jamwal while admitting the grievances of residents as genuine, said “We are aware of the this grave problem being faced by the residents of the colony. The matter was discussed with Commissioner, JMC who herself personally visited the area few months ago”. The installation of barriers is under the active consideration of Commissioner and hopefully some good news is in offing for the aggrieved residents.
JK Globals News tried to seek viewpoint of Commissioner, JMC, Avny Lavasa, on the issue, however, she remained unavailable due to some unavoidable circumstances.
