As part of the nationwide Van Mahotsav and ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, the Jammu Forest Division on Wednesday organised a plantation and sapling distribution drive at Dungian in Bahu to promote environmental conservation and expand the region’s green cover.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Jammu, Anurag Arya, IFS, and the supervision of Range Officer, Bahu, Wajid Rafiqi.

A large number of students and local residents participated in the drive, during which hundreds of indigenous saplings were planted and distributed. Participants were encouraged to plant a tree in the name of their mother and take responsibility for its care and protection.

Speaking on the occasion, Forest Department officials highlighted the importance of afforestation in preserving ecological balance, mitigating climate change and conserving biodiversity. They stressed that active public participation, particularly of the youth, is vital for the success of environmental initiatives.

The programme was coordinated by Block Forest Officer, Bahu, Rakeshwar Singh Kurhan. Appreciating the enthusiastic response from the participants, Range Officer Wajid Rafiqi urged people to nurture the planted saplings to ensure a greener and healthier future.

The event concluded with participants pledging to safeguard the saplings and continue supporting afforestation efforts, reaffirming the Forest Department’s commitment to sustainable environmental development.
