JAMMU: Amidst the pitch for elections start gaining traction in J&K Union Territory, the JMC councillor Chander Mohan Gupta and Purnima Sharma have both resigned from post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor respectively.
The decision to resign was taken at the behest of BJP leadership which will meet tomorrow on Sunday at party headquarter to arrive at consensus for electing new Mayor and Deputy Mayor in consultation with party councillors.
For long there was constant infighting among the Mayor and Deputy Mayor which apart from undermining the agenda of party was badly affecting the working of JMC.
Meanwhile, Ravinder Raina, BJP President J&K while interacting with mediapersons clarified that both the leaders wanted to provide their services for further strengthening the party base that is why they resigned.
