JAMMU: The Lawyers in one voice have condemned Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) for slapping a demolition notice under BOCA to its President Advocate, M.K. Bhardwaj, who is spearheading agitation for construction of a multi-storey complex in the premises of the High Court for housing various judicial forums including CAT, AFT and various other Tribunals etc.
Terming the JMC move as Tuglagi Farman, the agitated lawyers in an emergent meeting on Friday blamed the LG administration for “misusing” JMC authorities to get the ongoing strike fizzled out.
The JMC on 27-08-2022 issued a notice to the Bar President with regard to his Chamber’s building situated at Channi Himmat, Jammu which has been constructed on a Housing Board Plot owned by the President of the Bar Association, Jammu.
“Through JMC, the administration is adopting muscle flexing tactics against BAJ President to scuttle ongoing agitation, said lawyers in the meeting.
“The notice is an act of vendetta in response to BAJ call of Jammu bandh for 29th August, 2022 and in order to thwart the said Bandh, the administration adopted a novel method by issuing ‘Tuglaqi Farmaan’ on August 27th, 2022 by slapping the demolition notice through Jammu Municipal Corporation” said BAJ.
There was a lot of anger amongst the young Lawyers who extended full solidarity with BAJ President and reiterated their demand for multi-storey complex and stressed upon the LG Administration to come out in writing as a token of acceptance of their demands.
Similar views were expressed yesterday in the General House Meeting of the Bar Association where after threadbare discussions, the members declined to call off the agitation on the verbal assurance and it was decided that the agitation will go on till the demands are not considered in writing from the LG Administration.
The Lawyers further said that they have no issues with the High Court as the agitation is against the LG Administration and in case their demands are met or conceded in black & white by LG Administration, the Bar will reconsider its decision and the work can be resumed.
Deliberating upon the issue, BAJ resolved to convene a meeting of the General House on September 5th, 2022 to chalk out future course of action particularly in the light of the stubborn attitude of the LG administration and the latest move of JMC to harass the President of the Bar.
