JAMMU: Protest and demonstration are new tactics to justify irregularities in Transport section of Jammu Municipal Corporation.
To large extent the large scale corruption which earlier was prevailing in transport wing due to irregularities in fuel bills and Nallah gang payments has been controlled due to the proactive approach of Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta and Commissioner, said an officer of JMC preferring anonymity.
But, despite all this, still corruption prevailing in this wing on the name of irregularities in maintaining attendance of permanent SKCs, disclosed one driver.
This is mainly due to exemption of App attendance by JMC authorities only for 22 permanent SKCs posted in Transport section, he added.
The Transport Wing of JMC always remained as gold mine for Babus who served the corporation from time to time.
Earlier, the Transport Officer used to depute four SKCs with loaders for garbage collection.
But, this practice now has been kept in abeyance and now only two SKCs of NGOs are engaged, said one driver on condition of anonymity.
There is indeed something fishy in transport wing of JMC which compels some employees of the corporation to manage posting there using political influence and then stick to it through stay orders which the legal section of JMC never fit it appropriate to fight the same to vacate it, said one officer who earlier served as TO in this section.
It’s the job of Transport Officer to ensure transparency in attendance of SKCs even if the concerned supervisor allegedly indulged in unwanted activities, said one driver. But, even the Transport Officer is silent over attendance fraud happening right under his nose, added sources.
Pertinently, on the news item carried by JKGN, the Chief Transport Officer Harvinder Singh paid surprised visit in transport yards of JMC and found some irregularities in attendance.
Confirming about his surprised visit to check irregularities allegedly being committed in maintaining attendance of SKCs, Mr Singh said ” We have taken cognisance of the issue highlighted by JKGN and soon the loopholes will be plugged”
Eradicating wrongs for transparent functioning of Government departments is indeed the prime job of the officers for optimum utilisation of resources.
But who will dare to act against those who allegedly are collecting Nazrana from Transport wing on the name of Commissioner and Jt Commissioner (A) is a million dollar question.
This assume more significance as the authorities has exempted the App attendance of 22 permanent SKCs who are deputed with Transport section of the corporation.
