Jammu: Betterment of society seems remained the sole motive behind formation of non government organizations (NGO) which purely operates on no profit and no gain basis.
However, in the recent past some unscrupulous elements have started using NGO as an instrument of earning quick bucks through black mailing tactics besides pressurizing the officers to grind their own axe.
In the entire state, though several cases of minor sexual assault, dowry cases and domestic violence reported in length and breadth of the region besides visible endless child labour in every nook and corner of the state.Interestingly, the head of some NGO’s become active only when there is involvement of some high end people in issues of child labour, alleged sexual exploitation and domestic violence cases. In some cases, they also try to act more than police.
Recently, one NGO –AMAN Foundation has threatened Medical Superintendent of Gandhi Nagar Hospital Dr. ADS Manhas to conduct medical examination of one woman without informing police. The ‘victim’ woman has accused his spouse of allegedly raping her along with friends in a car at Nai Basti in Jammu.
As per available sources, one Raj Kachroo claiming to be running AMAN Foundation has threatened Dr Manhas of dire consequences if he failed to oblige him on the issue.
According to hospital sources, the ‘victim’ woman claiming of being raped by gang of men including his spouse has approached the hospital authority for medical examination on October 2 at 6.30 pm. Immediately, the concerned doctor constitute the team for medical examination besides also inform the Gandhi Nagar Police station.
Completing the procedural formalities, the hospital authorities conducted the medical examination. But, as soon as she steps into the hospital, one person claiming to be from AMAN Foundation constantly building pressure on Dr Manhas to conduct her examination without informing police.
As per police source, the woman has approached the woman police station on Sep 29 and lodge a complaint of assault against his spouse. The officials of woman police station immediately conducted the medical examination for further action against the alleged accused. “It’s surprising to see this woman coming with rape charges after two days of initial assault FIR” This rape story came into surface with the appearance of NGO in the issue which is really very interesting” said one official of woman police station.
“It’s become a fashion now to lodge complaint against someone then rope in NGO and then settle the issue through under hand deals” said police officer prefrring anonymity . “Is it possible to rape a woman in a car in broad day light especially in Nai Basti bazaar which is overcrowded all the time” he added. It’s a clear case of blackmailing and adultery, added the police officer.
JKGN contacted Raj Kachroo, Chairman Aman Foundation NGO and he claimed “it’s against law to wait for police prior to conduct of medical examination in rape cases”. However, when asked why the so called victim remained silent for two days when she was really raped by his spouse along with their friends, he said “The victim was shying to reveal her ordeal to police” Interestingly, the introvert victim turns extrovert with the intervention of NGO which seems to be a turning point in this case which needs to be investigate to bring out truth in this case, asserted a police officer.
