    Road safety week: DC Kathua, RTO highlight importance of traffic discipline

    Kathua: In its resolve to ensure safety of citizens on roads and inculcating driving etiquttes with community involvement for effective awareness of traffic rules, the motor vehicle department of district Kathua organised 29th Road Safety week here today.

    The road safety week under the theme of “Sadak Suraksha, Jeevan Raksha”was inaugurated by chief guest Rohit Khajuria, Deputy Commissioner, Kathua alongwith Pardeep Singh Manhas, RTO Lakhanpur.

    Speaking on the occasion, Rohit Khajuria underline the importance of organsing the road safety week every year which only aims at ensuring the safety of everyone on roads. Emphasing on safe driving habbit, Khajuria said that with every passing day there is tremendous pressure burgeoning on roads with addition of new vehicles. Thus its imperative to drive carefully while giving due care to the pedesterians. He also appealed to the public to avoid rash driving as it mostly cause collosal loss of human lives and which mostly comprised of youngesters which he referred as a precious loss to the family as well as nation.

    He also advised the public to restrain from wrong and improper parking of vehicles on the road as it also caused accidents. Giving warning to the encrachers, Khajuria said that roads are purely meant for plying of vehicles and no one will be spared who misadventure to endangered human lives on roads and footpaths.

    Pardeep Singh Manhas,RTO, while expressing concern about the loss of young lives in accidents has impressed upon the parents to sensitize their wards from going out on bikes without head gear. Stating that home is the first tutorial for learning, Manhas urged upon the parents to shun practice of handing over vehicles especially bikes to their dear ones without obtaining valid licence as negligence on this vital aspects have potential of playing havoc with himself as well as with others on roads.

    Manhas also appealed the general public to religiously follow the traffic rules as it only meant for ensuring their safety and refrain from driving vehicles using alcohals. He called upon the public to partcipate actively in disemminating the importance of traffic rules in schools,colleges and public gathering as  collectively anything can be achieved.

    The inaguration  programme was attended by various district officers, police officials and local public.
