Srinagar: Facing the criticism from all sides over controversial Ramzaan ceasefire, the BJP high command finally choose to separate from its alliance partner PDP which led to the culmination of coalition government in state.
The announcement of pulling out from coalition government in state was announced by Ram Madhav, BJP General Secretary.
BJP president Amit Shah had called for an urgent meeting of Jammu and Kashmir BJP ministers and some top leaders in the national capital. CM Mehbooba Mufti has submitted her resignation to the Governor, as per reports.
In a presser, Ram Madhav announced that it was no longer possible for the BJP to continue its alliance with PDP.
Ram Madhav said: “After discussing with everyone, we’ve decided to call of the alliance. For the last three years, BJP has tried its best to work with the PDP to ensure that there was security and development in Jammu and Kashmir.”
He claimed that freedom of press was under threat citing the recent murder of Rising Kashmir editor Shujaat Bukhari.
Ram Madhav praised the Centre for trying its “best” to work with the state government.
He added: “Centre did everything for the Valley. We’ve tried to put a full-stop to the ceasefire violations by Pak. PDP has not been successful in fulfilling its promises. Our leaders have been facing a lot of difficulties from PDP in developmental works in Jammu & Ladakh.”
Ram Madhav said: “Keeping in mind larger interest of India’s security and integrity, fact is that J&K is an integral part of India, in order to bring control over the situation prevailing in the state we have decided that the reins of power in the state be handed over to the Governor.”
Reacting to the news, Omar Abdullah tweeted: “And so it has come to pass.” He said: “The circumstances of running this government is not tenable and the fault lies with the other side.”
Speaking about the alliance, Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut, whose party also shares an uneasy relationship with BJP called the alliance ‘anti-national and unnatural’.
He said: “This alliance was anti-national & unnatural. Our party chief had said, this alliance won’t work out. Had they continued with it they would have had to answer in 2019 Lok Sabha election.”
In the last three years, the PDP-BJP alliance ruined Jammu and Kashmir, said Congress’ Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Meanwhile, Rafi Ahmad Mir, PDP spokesperson said: “We tried our best to run the govt with BJP. This had to happen. This is a surprise for us because we did not have any indication about their decision
Meanwhile, the National Conference General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar said to mediamen: “Had Mehbooba accepted our offer of support, this bloodshed would not have been there. That offer was withdrawn soon after she joined hands with BJP.”
