    Thirteen pilgrims dead, 50 missing as cloud burst hits Amarnath cave site

    SRINAGAR: The flash floods triggered by cloudburst that hit the Amarnath cave on Friday claimed lives of 13 pilgrims and nearly 50 are missing.

    As per official details, the cloud burst occurred at around 5:30 p.m leading to flash floods enroute the cave shrine. Nearly two dozen tents and three food stalls (langars) were washed away.

    Following the tragedy, the security forces and teams of NDRF as well as SDRF swung into actions and launched rescue operation and were later joined by teams of ITBP and CRPF for searching the missing pilgrims.

    Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the situation incident and on-going rescue operation.

    “Spoke to Hon’ble PM & Hon’ble HM and briefed about the incident. Hon’ble PM & Hon’ble HM has assured all the help,” he tweeted, adding, “Our priority is to save the lives of people. Instructions have been issued to provide all necessary assistance to pilgrims. I am closely monitoring the situation”.

    The PM, HM, LG as well as leaders of NC, PDP and Congress all expresses their grief over the tragedy and offered condolence.
