JAMMU: The department of higher education is in news these days owing to massive confusion over the select list of Principals of Government Degree Colleges (GDC) the interview of which were recently conducted by Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC).

Though the select list as per prevailing practice is not available in public domain, yet all the aspirants are very well conversant with their ranking breaching the veil of official secrecy.

Owing to this piquant situation, now the rumor mills are fully activated thereby generating a row of sorts among the high and low heeled over the exact ranking of the aspirants.

As per reports, the ranking of Principals currently occupying the seat in elite colleges namely GGM Science College, GCW Gandhi Nagar, SPMR Commerce College Jammu, Govt College of Education etc is the talk of the town owing to their name in bottom” alleged a male Principal preferring anonymity.

Terming this chaos as unfortunate, one of the aspirants told JK Global News “The JKPSC was in an unimaginable hurry to conduct the interviews but to date the select list is not in the public domain”.

For the selection of 105 post of Principals, the JKPSC has conducted interviews of 444 candidates and the whole process culminated in 20 days on November 21, 2022.

Ironically, the deliberate leakage of this list has activated the all powerful transfer mafia in corridors of power giving two hoots to repeated tall claims of transparency and uprooting corruption by both our Central and UT dispensation.

Even elements associated with transfer industry are claiming to procure prime postings with hush hush money for those whose ranking is at the lowest level as per the unreported list but as of now occupying prominent colleges both in Kashmir as well as Jammu region, alleged source in HED.

However, our reliable sources revealed that these rumors are being circulated deliberately with an Ill intention to scuttle the elaborate exercise of government in all earnestness to post only competent lot of Principals in GDCs as our LG is wedded to the promotion of quality education in tune with recently announced National Education Policy.

“The government should ensure that all the rumor mongers as well as those greasing the wheels of transfer industry in HED are identified by referring the matter to CID which is manned by a man of impeccable integrity in police department”, said our sources in HED.

Asserting his view point, well known anti corruption crusader Prof. S K Bhalla said “The whole exercise of selection as also posting of Principals of GDCs is an acid test for LGs administration” adding that being an ex Principal of a Degree College I am well versed with the goings on in HED which has earned notoriety for alleged malpractices which can only be curbed by weeding out long staying officers who have developed a vested interest in their continuation there at.

Repeated attempts to seek clarification on the matter failed as both Secretary JKPSC Bashir Sofi as well as Special Secretary, HED, Rakesh Kumar Badyal prefer to avoid our calls.
