Lucknow: Taking serious note to the news coming that the girls were sexually exploited in Deoria shelter home in Uttar Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has suspended the District Magistrate Deoria Sujit Kumar and District Probation Officer (DPO) Prabhat Kumar.
Before the suspension, Adityanath called up Kumar to express his displeasure that he wasn’t informed of the incident. Rohan P. Kanay, the Superintendent of Police Deoria, said that the police conducted a raid at the shelter home and rescued 24 girls on Sunday. The police arrested three persons, identified as Kanchan Lata, Girija Tripathi and Mohan Tripathi, who were running the shelter home, and sealed the premises.
“On checking records, it was found that 42 girls aged between 15 and 18 years were housed in the shelter home. But at the time of raid we found only 24. About 18 girls are missing from the protection home. We are interrogating the arrested persons about their whereabouts. The rescued girls are being sent for the medical examination to confirm if they were forced into the sex racket,” said the SP.
The Women and Child Welfare Minister Dr Rita Bahuguna Joshi has ordered a high-level probe by the Principal Secretary of the department. “It’s a very serious matter. I have directed to submit the report within 24 hours. Strict action will be taken against those found guilty,” said the Cabinet Minister.
