Jammu: Succumbing to the nod of the state government by the varsity authority to allow state Republic Day event in the campus of Jammu University instead of Maulana Azad stadium has been seen by majority in the campus as encroachment on University autonomous status.
As per reliable sources, strong resentment is prevailing among the academicians as well as non teaching staff over VC’s decision to allow state government to hold RD event in JU’s campus.
“The three days event of RD parade will consume almost 2 months which cover building infrastructure besides rehersal activities”, said a senior official of JU preferring anonimity.
The entire pre Republic Day exercise will amount to mess in the campus which otherwise meant for academic activities, he added.
Sources, further revealed that this event will rendered the stadium unfit for sports activitities and it will took a long time to regain its original shape.
“Indeed its a dent on the academic activitities in the campus, opined a senior JU faculty. ” We are astonished at the promptness of Vice Chancellor Prof Manoj Dhar while heeding to the nod of state administration with submission at the cost of academic activities, said another senior varsity academician.
There is Ghulshan Ground with well built infrastructure besides K.K Haku stadium where this event can be held suitably but why VC was eager to say yes to the state administration proposal is mind blowing, said another JU teaching faculty member.
As per reliable inputs, some days ago a meeting of Divisional Commissioner was held with the varsity authorities in the campus where some senior most academician expressed their resentment on holding of RD event in JU sports stadium. Even a senior most academician had categorically say NO to Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Verma.
However, the VC who was out of station immediately acceded to the state administration proposal after returning from official tour.
Even as resentment wide and open among academicians there is a coterie of officials in JU who are attributing it as great “achievement” in the history of JU.
Expressing happiness over holding of RD parade in JU campus, Dawood Iqbal, Director Physical Education and sports asserted that its an “achievement” in the history of JU as such co curricular activitities must allow to be happened in JU with open heart.
To ascertain VC views on this matter JKGN contacted Vinay Thusso , official spokesperson of JU who couldnot speak on it due some unavoidable circumstances.
