    Submit report by April 28 in Wrestlers sexual harassment complaint : SC to Cops

    NEW DELHI : Coming to the rescue of women wrestlers who are demanding arrest and registration of FIR against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for sexual misconduct and intimidation the Supreme Court of India has issued notice to the Delhi Police on plea filed by protesting women wrestlers

    Observing that the allegations levelled by wrestlers in the petition against WFI chief are serious, a bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud direct the Delhi police to submit its report by April 28 on the matter. The court also ordered obscuring names of all seven complainant wrestlers from judicial records to intact their identities.

    The court was apprised that women wrestlers which include a minor and the minor girl is a gold medalist complained of sexuall harassment by the WFI Chief and subsequently, the Union Sports Ministry constituted a committee to investigate the matter. But despite lapse of sufficient time, neither the report of the committee was revealed not action under law was initiated against the alleged accused.

    WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was accused by the wrestlers of sexual misconduct and intimidation. The government established a five-member oversight council to oversee WFI operations. Boxer Mary Kom is heading the oversight committee which was formed to probe into the allegations levelled against the WFI and its chief Singh and other coaches.
