Timeline between issuance of appointment letter and publication of selection list is peculiar-CAT
Srinagar: The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora, has come under judicial scrutiny over the appointment of an Assistant Finance Officer after the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Srinagar Bench, was informed by applicant that the appointment order was allegedly issued 15 days before publication of the provisional selection list.

The Tribunal has directed the university to produce the original recruitment record in a sealed cover while hearing a petition challenging the appointment of Zeeshan Nazir to the post.

Counsel for the applicant, Advocate Shaqir Rajab, submitted that the appointment order was issued on April 6, 2026, while the provisional selection and waiting lists were published on April 21, 2026.

Describing the circumstances as peculiar, the Tribunal issued notice to the respondents and sought the relevant recruitment documents to examine the sequence of events.

The petitioner, Naseer Ahmad Dar, has sought quashing of the appointment order, claiming that he stands at number one in the waiting list and deserves consideration for the post.

The Tribunal’s direction places the recruitment process under judicial examination. The matter will now come up for further hearing on November 23, 2026.
