Mumbai: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next project based on the life of famous poet Sahir Ludhianvi has been grabbing headlines for long. Many actors’ names have been tossed around for the role of Ludhianvi, including those of Irrfan Khan and Fawad Khan. Reportedly Shah Rukh Khan was also approached for the role but after much speculation, Abhishek Bachchan will apparently slip into Ludhianvi’s character for the film.
However, the female lead to play the role of the Urdu poet-lyricist’s romantic interest Amrita Pritam, is yet to shortlisted. While Priyanka Chopra’s name was being considered for the role, it seems Alia Bhatt is SLB’s “most prominent choice” for Amrita’s role.
Interestingly, Bhansali told Deccan Chronicle, “I find Alia’s growth as an actress to be truly fascinating. She exudes a certain poise and confidence that is rare for actors her age. She is now at a stage where her career decisions will determine whether she joins the hall of all-time greats. It would be most interesting to work with Alia.”
Meanwhile, Alia is currently promoting her next film Raazi alongside Vicky Kaushal. In the Meghna Gulzar-directorial, Alia will be seen playing an Indian spy called Sehmat. The actress has also wrapped up Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boys, which features her alongside Ranveer Singh for the first time.
