JAMMU: Even as administration in the Union Territory of J&K have visibly set itself in top gears to flush out land grabbers, the Jammu Development Authority and District Commissioner, Jammu have accused cops for their alleged attempts to encroach upon a prime piece of 5 kanals land in Bhatindi
Flagging the matter as most urgent, the JDA authorities have dashed a missive to higher ups in police department asking for restraining the cops in question who allegedly are involved in broad day grabbing of its land valuing worth crores.
In a communique to SSP, Jammu vide letter No JDA/DLM/HQA/461-66 dated 12-11-2020, the JDA has accused the Incharge Police Post Bhatindi for encroaching 5 kanals of its prime land by dumping construction material and levelling with JCB.
While accompanying the Khasra Girdawari for substantiating its claim over the patch, the letter further stated “On enquiry, it has been established that no such permission or NOC has been ever sought from JDA or DC office Jammu by Incharge Police Post, Bhatindi before undertaking construction activity.”
The letter further reads “He (Incharge Police Post) refuses to stop work at site despite our persistent request made in this regard to him.”
Interestingly, even the DC, Jammu vide its office letter No DCJ/GGC/2020/825-29 dated 10-11-2-2020 has also apprised have also apprised the encroachment endeavours of concerned police post cops in Bhatindi.
The land measuring 5 kanals and falls in Khasra No 260 of village Narwal Bala is situated adjoining Police Post Bhathindi where the repeated attempts of the JDA officials to put concertina wires around it were foiled at the behest of the encroachers, said a senior officer of DC office Jammu.
This is an open act of misuse of institution of police to encroach upon piece of land which as per revenue records is the property of JDA, said a senior officer of JDA. Indeed this is a serious issue, added the officer preferring anonymity.
Denying acts of encroachment by the cops a senior police officer preferring anonymity said “We have expansion proposal for Police Post Bhatindi and the adjoining vacant land seems fit for the purpose.”
However, highly placed sources in Police Headquarter revealed “There is no such proposal on record to buy land from JDA for further expansion of existing Police Post Bhatindi infrastructure.”
