    KU students stage protests demonstration over disapperance of Asst Professor

    Srinagar: Protests erupt in University of Kashmir here today after a contractual assistant professor appointed in the sociology department of the varsity went missing.

    The assistant professor is from Chunduna Ganderbal district and has been identified as namely Dr Mohammad Rafi Bhat son of Abdul Rahim Bhat.

    His family members reported to the university’s chief proctor that he is missing since yesterday.

    The vice-chancellor has written to the Director General of Police, requesting him that all efforts are made to trace the whereabouts of the said contractual lecturer, said a varsity spokesman, in a statement.

    “The offices of the Chancellor as well as the Pro-Chancellor have also been appraised about the matter,” he said.

    The spokesman said the vice chancellor personally met the protesting students and assured them that all efforts would be made to trace the missing lecturer.

    “The university is in touch with the local police. Students are requested to maintain calm and cooperate,” he said
