Mumbai: In a shocking incident, an Uber driver was caught masturbating by a woman passenger during a ride in Mumbai’s Andheri East area here today morning. The woman has filed a police complaint against the driver.
According to a report, the driver was ‘masturbating’ in public while the cab was at a traffic signal.
‘I immediately got out of the car and asked him to stop the fare immediately. He walked out of the car abusing and asking what happened, to which I said don’t you know what happened or do you want me to scream and let everyone know what you did,’ the woman was quoted as saying by the report.
When she tried to confront him, he came towards her in a threatening manner and told her to pay for the ride.
Without any delay, the woman paid him and didn’t wait for the change.
However, when she tried to raise the issue to the cab aggregator, the mail failed to reach Uber.
‘I request Uber to kindly dismiss his license and stop him from serving anyone. I felt unsafe in my own city, in a busy traffic area with people watching the commotion and nobody really coming to help,’ the woman said.
This is not the first time that an Uber driver has been found sexually molesting the woman passengers during ride.
Last month, an Uber driver was arrested for masturbating while a woman passenger was seated in the cab in Central Delhi’s Janpath.
According to the police, the incident occurred on the night of April 15. The woman, who was returning from Indore, arrived at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) and booked Uber to go home.
“The accused Uber driver has been identified as Shokeen Khan. He was arrested after the woman raised an alarm at a barricade on Janpath. The driver tried to flee but was arrested by the police officers. He was taken into one-day police custody and produced before a court on Tuesday, and then sent to judicial custody,” said Madhur Verma, Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi.
